27 may 2024: ASML pulls the plug on Brabant's housing market
The housing market in and around Veldhoven is under great pressure. ASML helps project developers by financing the unprofitable top.
The chip machine manufacturer now has about 20,000 employees, a large number of whom come from abroad. These generally well-paid knowledge workers put a great deal of pressure on the region's housing market. To compensate for this, the company has set up the Affordable Housing Program. This is intended to get stalled new construction projects back on track. It involves a guarantee, whereby project developers are compensated if a project ends up in the red.
New construction project
In this way, ASML is now involved in two projects. One is a new construction project for 130 affordable homes in Velhoven, in which BPD Woningfonds and Van Santvoort are involved. The tech company will contribute up to 1.84 million euros if the project makes a loss. Should the developers' gross margins exceed 10 percent, that portion of the profits will be donated to Brainport voor Elkaar.
